WASHINGTON has been highly regarded for the integrity of its state government, but that reputation is slipping. Even before questions arose about the state Department of Corrections scandal and state employees taking jobs at state-funded startups, The Center for Public Integrity lowered the state’s grade from a B-minus to a D-plus.
Washington’s years-long fight to put sunlight on tax breaks yielded a win for the public last week. The state Department of Revenue agreed to begin disclosing the amount of Boeing’s tax-break savings that were part of multibillion-dollar, tax-incentive packages approved by the Legislature for the aerospace sector in 2003 and 2013.

As our federal gov't struggles, state government has never been more important or impactful. I have long held that Democrats need to gain a better understanding of the often-overlooked role of the 10th Amendment.
What are energy and environmental policies that you would like to see implemented in our state?
Today, it is technically feasible for buildings to be net zero energy and net zero water. ( If carefully designed, the increase in construction cost for such effort for is somewhere in the range of 5% to 15% additional to today’s current practices. ) I would encourage all publicly funded construction to meet these targets.

I'd like to see more green space required around new buildings and more required parking spaces. Most Seattleites aren't going to give up their car anytime soon. I'd also like to see a more environmentally friendly way to dispose of our garbage. I read an article about how Sweden cleanly burns their trash rather then put it in landfills.

2 weeks ago · 5Reuven Carlyle for Senate I would like to see more job transition/training programs funded for those that have either lost their current job and/or are looking for work in the Green and Tech sector. As far as "policies" I think we should begin to focus more on how to monetize our eWaste in a manner similar to how foreign entities buy our bulk eWaste, recycle it into new products and then sell it back to us, making a higher profit margin. I think if we can begin to recycle our own goods into what we already use and find incentives for our tech companies to endorse it, we could be onto something that would not only launch us decades past any other state/country but we could almost be a self sustaining state with a great living wage that matches the cost of living while also ensuring our business developers and investors remain happy with a positive and very healthy profit margin.
